Overview
Microsoft released a Windows Security Update (KB5004945) to patch an exploit in the Windows Print Spooler service that can allow attackers to remotely execute code with administrator privileges. As a result, this caused some printers to stop working. Microsoft has since released a Known Issue Rollout (KIR) to correct this issue. The KIR should have been applied automatically when a computer reboots.
NOTE: If the rollout has already been applied, the following registry entry should exist: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\4\1861952651
Affected Zebra label printers:
- LP2824
- ZD410
Procedure
- Empty the Print Queue
- Disconnect the USB cable from the printer
- Uninstall the printer and all drivers (including the Zebra drivers from the Print Server Settings)
- Install the latest version of Zebra Setup Utilities
- Connect the USB cable to the printer
- After the drivers are installed, reconfigure the printer
- If this does not solve the issue:
- Run Windows Update and allow it to install any new updates. This is to ensure the KIR will be applied as well as install a small update to the .NET Framework. Note: In some cases, this new update may not be available right away. Try waiting an hour before running the Windows update again.
- Reboot the computer
