Setting up bottle deposits

Overview

Some states require a bottle deposit be added at the time of sale.  This article will guide you through creating the bottle deposit product and adding it as a tag along product to all products that require the bottle deposit.


Creating a bottle deposit item

  1. Log into your back office
  2. Navigate to Products → Add New Product
  3. Enter a UPC or double-click on the UPC field to generate a unique UPC
    1. Copy the UPC to use when adding the bottle deposit to another product
  4. Enter "Bottle Deposit" in the description field
  5. Set the Product Type to Non-Inventory
  6. (Optional) Set a department, category, and subcategory
  7. Enter the deposit amount in the Retail Price field
  8. Set the Tax to the appropriate tax jurisdiction (taxable or non-taxable)
  9. Click Save 


The example below is for a $0.05 bottle deposit


Adding the bottle deposit to required items

  1. Navigate to Products -> Catalog
  2. Search for the product(s) that requires a bottle deposit
  3. Edit the product
  4. Click on "Tag along products" to open the tag along window
  5. Click on "Add new entry"
  6. Enter the bottle deposit UPC from the step above or search for "Bottle Deposit"
  7. Enter a quantity in the "Quantity" field
    1. If there is a single bottle deposit regardless of how many bottles are in the product being sold, enter 1
    2. If there is a bottle deposit per bottle in the product being sold, set this to the number of bottles in the product.  For example, a 12 pack of 12 bottles would have a quantity of 12.
  8. Click on "Accept" to close the tag along window
  9. Click Save to save the product


Below is an example of selling a Busch Light 12 pack of bottles, and the product will automatically add the Bottle Deposit with a quantity of 12.
