Overview

The discontinuation of the penny has changed how cash transactions are handled without penny increments.  This article will cover the solutions available to help your business transition away from pennies.

Location-Based Penny Rounding

This method was released in v4.12.106. If you are on an older version and would like to use this feature, please contact support@cloudretailer.com

  1. In back office, go to the Admin tab an click "Locations"
  2. Double click the desired location to enable penny rounding
  3. Select the penny rounding mode: Always round up, down, or to the nearest nickel
  4. Save the settings
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each location that requires rounding pennies
  6. Sync the registers
  7. Restart Cloud Retailer on all registers for the changes to take effect

Product-Based Penny Rounding

This method is available on all versions.

  1. In back office, go to the Products tab and click "Add New Product"
  2. Double click the UPC field to generate a new code. Copy that code to your clipboard, name it "Penny Rounding", and fill out any fields that make sense for your data. We recommend labeling it "Non-Inventory":
  3. Scroll down to "Product Location Data" and set the tax to "No Tax", check the "Prompt for price at register" option, and low bounds to -.04, and high bounds to .04. This will prevent cashiers from abusing the rounding.
    • If always rounding down, set high bounds to 0. If always rounding up, set low bounds to 0.
  4. Save the product. Now go to the "Admin" tab and find "Task Pads"
  5. Find an unused button on your default task pad and click it.
  6. Add "Penny Rounding" to the text, type "Add Line" in the top part of the command, it should auto-complete the "Sales: Add Line Item" command. In the lower part, paste your Penny Rounding product code. Save the task pad.
  7. Sync and restart the register.

Your cashiers can now manually add rounding so transactions always end with an even 5 cents:
